Summary: At the Estonian – Russian border there is a unique ensemble of two fortresses of great cultural and historical value. Their historical and cultural potential is not used in full; moreover the fortresses are dilapidating.The overall objective of the project is to increase the competitiveness of the cross-border region through development of the unique Narva-Ivangorod trans-border fortresses ensemble as a single cultural and tourist object. The sub-objectives of the project are:• Conservation and reconstruction of Narva-Ivangorod fortifications (Narva Victoria bastion and Ivangorod fortress Small Powder Granary) • Development of necessary tourism infrastructure • Improvement of quality and accessibility of tourist information • Expanding cross-border cooperation. The project Lead Partner is Narva City Government’s Department for Development and Economy and project partner is Museum Agency of the Leningrad Region. Expected project results: • Historical fortifications (Victoria bastion and Powder cellar, and The Small Powder Granary) reconstructed and opened for visitors; • Necessary tourism infrastructure developed (expositions and visitor centres in Victoria bastion and in the small Powder Granary, safe access roads, info-signs, recreation zones, toilets, etc); • Improved quality and accessibility of tourist information ( carried-out promotional campaign, developed tourist materials, trained guides (20 prs) and museum staff (4 prs), touch-screen-computer etc); • Accessibility of Narva and Ivangorod fortresses improved, increased nr of tourist in CBC region on 15%; • Expanded cross-border cooperation between project partners and two cross-border cities. Development of the unique Narva-Ivangorod trans-border fortresses ensemble as a single cultural and tourist object will be done jointly within a common project, because only in this way it gives the biggest synergetic effect and contributes to better achievement of objectives set in the current project, makes cross-border cooperation between two cities more efficient. Project target groups: tourists - ca 177 000 visitors per year, local population ca 75 000, tourists companies more than 50, project partners
