Summary: The project aims to launch a long-term cooperation between local sport schools for children and young people’s physical training in municipalities of Smiltene and Porhova, using experience and resources of both countries. Project encourages children and young people’s participation in sport activities, particularly athletics, using cross-border cooperation between Latvia and Russia as a healthy sport competition promoter, thereby contributing to children and young people's expansion of active opportunities. Project’s lead partner is Smiltene region council, project partner in Russia is Porhov district Administration, Pskov region. Project is designed as a symmetrical project, as it arranges environment for athletics for both partners. In order to benefit from cooperation, both countries have to arrange their facilities for athletics. At the time being Smiltene already has a modern sport complex, however there is a need for simplified reconstruction of the outdoor stadium, since it has no proper jogging track, while Porhova needs a reconstruction of jogging tracks. Arranging the facilities for athletics is the base for further cooperation. Project’s main collaboration objective is arrangement of 2-day long international athletics competitions in Porhov and Smiltene with a minimum of 30 participants from each country, provided that this will start a series of international competitions in the future, which will be joined by participants from other counties as well as other sports. Another important activity within the project will be arrangement of each country’s sport experts visit to the partner country. During the visit, 10 sport experts (coaches, famous athletes) will attend the partner country and give information about their own country’s sport system, present their national culture and provide both theoretical and practical training and demonstrations for the partner country’s athletes, coaches and other interested parties.
