Summary: The first cross border activities between Latvian and Russian partners started in 1999, with small projects implemented on SME development, eco-education. The project idea came from project partners, as in their territories public artifical and natural water bodies are polluted and very overgrown. The project addresses a common problem in both border areas of insufficiently renovated and promoted nature resources caused by lack of financing and a proper reconstruction scheme and experience in the field. In Latgale and Pskov regions existing public artificial and natural water bodies have been polluted and very overgrown, intensive renewal and reconstruction of water bodies is necessary. In existing watercourses of border regions water aeration is not enough, there isn’t natural oxygen attraction, water coasts are not cleened from the reeds. OVERALL OBJECTIVE of the Project: to improve the attractiveness of the border areas through joint educational approach, exchange of experience and solutions towards the improvement of the environmental condition of the public artificial and natural water bodies in Latvia and Russia. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1) to promote the attractiveness of public artificial and natural water bodies in border areas of Latvia and Russia; 2) to establish a joint cross-border approach for the protection of environment and for the improvement of biodiversity in water bodies; 3) to promote environmentally friendly attitudes, which means a sense of responsibility towards the environment and raise awareness of the environment protection; 4) to develop a society, which lives in harmony with environment by raising the awareness on environmental issues.
