Summary: The project connects Estonian and Russian organizations and interest groups that are involved with the narrow gauge railway history with the aim of advancing competitiveness and gross-border co-operation of the regions. In order to achieve these goals the partners (Türi Rural Municipality and NGO Imperatorskii Vokzal) promote narrow gauge railway thematic tourism field, which covers developing joint tourism goods and services, commonly accepted strategy of tourism and creation of co-operation networks in the field. Co-operation in working out joint tourism strategy and services offers both of the partners a possibility to exchange experiences, learn from each other and compare the working process and results. Preserving the historical and cultural heritage is problematic area for both partner countries and finding a mutual solution gives the issue an international dimension, thereby bringing the subject more closer to the public. On the other hand the multiplicity of partners and opinions promises to reach more efficient solutions then working them out alone. In the light of tourism the history of railway transportation has not been presented in a very attractive way. Nevertheless the history holds out a lot of interest making it possible to take a look back to the shaping of cultural history, development of society and many events with historical importance. Direct aim of the project is to bring the subjects involving the railway transportation and its history closer to the public. For this purpose the preparations such as necessary work projects, plans and studies will be made to create a museum and exposition in Türi and St. Petersburg. The overall objective of the project is raising the competitiveness of the areas of partner institutions, general development of cross-border co-operation and sharing the resources between partners and finding extra resources. The specific objectives can be divided into two categories – mutual and individual. Mutual objectives to be reached: regions are in the international target markets well known and in home country valued travel destinations, Estonian and Russian tourism goods and services are with good-quality and versatile Individual objectives: establishing narrow gauge railway museums – theme parks that would advance the development of regions, deal with the historical research of the railway and offer entertainment. The target group of the project consists primarily of the residents, students and tourists. Final beneficiaries are residents, local governments, tourism organizations, entrepreneurs of the partner regions.
