PROMOTING HERITAGE: Opening of Culture Centre in Pechory finalizes the Project activities

The project “Development of the centres for culture and creative industries in Räpina, Vilaka and Pechory” (PROMOTING HERITAGE) was officially finalized on 11 July 2014, with the closing Conference in Pechory, Russia. Now as the last of the project public events – the opening of Culture Centre in Pechory - is successfully over, the main results of the project can be summarized.

During the project implementation partners from Estonia, Latvia and Russia - Räpina Municipality Government, Vilaka Municipal Council, Administration of Pechory District and Municipal Culture Institution “Culture Centre of the Pechory District” achieved the following results:

- Culture Centres were restored in each of three partner municipalities: Culture centre in Rapina, opened on 9 April 2013, Vilaka Culture Centre, opened on 18 May 2013 and Culture Centre in Pechory, opened on 9 August 2014.

- Master-classes were organized in Rapina, Vilaka and Pechory for about 100 participants.

- 15 ethnological expeditions with participation of 12 volunteers organized in Pechory District, findings and results of the expeditions described in a booklet which was issued in Russian and English in 2000 copies.

- Two conferences were held for more than 200 participants, including project partners, representatives of cultural and educational institutions, municipal administrations, church, mass media and youth organizations, to stimulate exchange of experience in the field of preservation of cultural heritage.

- Local folklore ensembles of partner municipalities were provided with new traditional folk costumes.

- Exhibition of pictures of Russian artist Natalia Pugacheva was brought to Pechory, Rapina and Vilaka in 2013 and 2014.

- Singers, dansers and musitians from Rapina and Vilaka took part in the International Festival of Culture in Pechory „Open Harts to Music“ in August 2013.

The Opening of Pechory Culture Centre held on 9 August, the Day of Pechory, joined all the partners of different projects implemented in Pechory District from Latvia and Estonia who came to congratulate their neighbours on this double holiday. The ceremony clearly showed that the inhabitants of bordering regions can enjoy not only project outputs – improved infrastructure, but also wonderful results of project work – strengthened cultural relations, enlivened cultural life, close and productive partnership between partner municipalities of three countries.
