LSP-3: Final trip around all restored and built infrastructure sites in Estonia and Russia summed up the finalizing project

On 16 – 19 September Large Scale Project “Economically and environmentally sustainable Lake Peipsi area” (Common Peipsi) held its Final event – grand trip around all infrastructure investment sites reconstructed or created within the project. Representatives of the Beneficiary, Estonian Ministry of the Interior, and all 10 partners and 4 associated partners gathered to see with their own eyes what a great job has been done and noticeable results achieved within almost 4 years of project implementation.

In Estonia the participants visited harbors and facilities constructed in the frame of the project in Mustvee, Kallaste, Tartu, Rapina, observed the water treatment plant in Polva and sailed along Emajõgi by the barge “Jõmmu”. In Russia the improved water treatment infrastructure was examined in Pechory, Palkino, Gdov and Pskov Districts and in Pskov City. Project partners had a wonderful chance to witness and enjoy the beauty of Peipsi Lake which is kept for future generations thanks to efforts of cross-border cooperation.

Solving different problems on both sides of the border Estonian and Russian partners of the project contribute to improvement of environmental situation of the biggest transboundary lake of the Europe - Lake Peipsi, create preconditions for the development of water related tourism and traffic and so favourably influence socio-economic development of the region.

During info-sessions organized within the trip in Mustvee and Rapina, Leshchikhino and Gdov all partner Municipalities presented the progress of their part of project work, its development from an idea to the achievement. The project included not only investment, but also research component – State Committee for Nature Management of Pskov Region introduced results of its deep investigation of the water treatment facilities on Russian side of the project and perspectives of further work.

All participants of the event admitted that the partnership established within the project has proved successful due to mutual support and willing cooperation and has big potential which can be realized and developed in future projects.

Total cost of the project is EUR 9 474 009,00, including co-financing by the Programme and Estonian Ministry of  the Interior EUR 8 526 607,30. Partners co-financing is EUR 947 401,70.
