Increasing the capacity of border control point infrastructure in the Latvian-Russian border
Grant Contract for 5, 8 million euro of ENPI Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme co-financing today has been countersigned with the State Joint Stock Company “State Real Estate” in Riga (Latvia). Large Scale Project “Reconstruction of BCP “Vientuļi” and arrangement of BCP “Brunishevo” ” has been supported under the Programme Priority I – socio-economic development and Measure – transport, logistics and communication solutions and will increase qualitative and quantitative capacity of Border Control Checkpoints Vientuli/Ludonka and Pededze/Brunishevo and thus improve overall capacity of the infrastructure in the Latvian-Russian border control points.
Vientuli-Ludonka border control checkpoint (BCP) is a multilateral checkpoint, however due to its technical condition it services only passenger vehicles at the moment. It has been reconstructed and has all necessary infrastructure for processing goods and passenger vehicles on the Russian side (Ludonka), however lacks needed infrastructure on the Latvian side (Vientuli).
The BCP Brunishevo-Pededze is currently bi-lateral (servicing only Russian and Latvian residents), and has been modernized on the Latvian side (Pededze) to be able to service international passenger transport, but has insufficient infrastructure on Russian side (Brunishevo). Modernisation and reconstruction of the mentioned BCPs has been discussed between competent authorities in Latvia and Russia, resulting in the present Large Scale Project.
Specific objectives of the Project are:
- To build basic infrastructure for reconstructed BCP Vientuli on the Latvian side of the border control check point Vientuli-Ludonka creating basis for turning of this point into fully functioning border crossing point for passenger and cargo vehicles in the future;
- To arrange priority infrastructure and facilities for reconstructed BCP Brunishevo on the Russian side of the border crossing check point Pededze-Brunishevo, thus increasing the capacity and level of comfort of this border crossing check point and creating the basis for turning of this point into multilateral border crossing check point for pasenger vehicles in future.
Total budget of the Large Scale Project is 6 444 444 EUR and it includes 5, 8 MEUR ENPI and Russian co-financing, as well 644 444 EUR co-financing from the side of involved partners by the State Budgets of the Republic of Latvia and Russian Federation.
Project will be implemented altogether with 3 partners from Latvia and Russia. Partners for Project implementation from Russian side are Federal Agency for the Development of the State Border Facilities of the Russian Federation (Russia) and Federal State Budget Institution “Rosgranstroy” (Russia).
