GREENMAN: Public Award “People’s Acknowledgement-2013” for Dendropark Restoration Works
NGO “Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov”, the Lead Partner of the Project “Tartu, Rezekne, Pskov: Green Management for Urban Development & Planning in EE-LV-RU Border Area” (GreenMan) won a prestigious public award of the Pskov Region People's Acknowledgement (“Народное признание”).
The organization took the first place in the category “Quality of Life” for the restoration of the Arboretum (Dendropark) of Pskov City. The e-voting for applicants lasted more than 2 months, and the Dendropark restoration got more than 2000 votes from Pskov residents.
The award was given to the NGO “Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov” Chairperson and the GreenMan Project Manager Ms. Olga Vasilenko. “GreenMan is the Project of people for people. It was the efforts of all Pskov and international team of the GreenMan Project and I am glad that you evaluated our work so high”, said O.Vasilenko at the awarding ceremony in Pskov Drama Theater on February 21, 2014.
The Arboretum with a total square of 5 ha has been restored in 2013 in the frameworks of the GreenMan project. Improvement works included leveling the ground, planting of trees and lawn grass, creating and paving walkways, installation of small-scale infrastructure (benches, trash bins etc.), creating a special descent to the Arboretum for people with disabilities, developing a lighting system, etc. The GreenMan project provided around 0.5 mln EUR to implement the works.
The Project is implemented by Pskov regional public organization “Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov” in close cooperation with 9 partner organizations from Russia, Latvia and Estonia: Administration of Pskov City, Pskov State University, Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation, Tartu City Government, Estonian University of Life Sciences, Latvian office of Euroregion "Country of Lakes”, Rezekne City Council, Rezekne Local Municipality and Daugavpils University.
The general aim of the Project is focused at development of effective methods of urban green areas management in the capitals of EE-LV-RU cross-border region - Pskov, Tartu and Rezekne. To achieve this, municipalities, universities and NGOs have jointed their knowledge, experience and efforts.
The GreenMan project started in May 2012 and will be implemented during 24 months, up to April 2014.
The project is financed by the “Estonia-Latvia-Russia” ENPI CBC Programme 2007-2013. The project total budget is 1.948.194,78 EUR; the Programme co-financing is 1.753.375,30 EUR and the project partners’ co-financing is around 200 thousand EUR.
