GREENMAN: Partnership and synergy of Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross-border cooperation projects made Dendropark Day in Pskov, Russia
On 19 June near Mirozhskij Monastery in Pskov, Russia, took place Dendropark Day comprising two noteworthy events – official opening of Dendropark after reconstruction in the framework of Cross-Border Cooperation Project “GreenMan” and Children Holiday devoted to the International Nature Protection Day.
The formal opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of Pskov City Ms. Natalia Sokolova, The Head of the City Administration Mr. Igor Kalashnikov, Consul of the Consulate of Latvian Republic in Pskov Ms. Irena Putnina, Director of Pskov Chancery of the Consulate General in St Petersburg of Estonian Republic Ms. Triin Parts, representatives of Pskov Region and City Administrations, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation as well as partners of the “GreenMan” Project from Pskov, Tartu, Rezerkne, Daugavpils and specialists in green urban management.
As it was noted by Natalia Goleva, the Head of the External Economic Relations Department of the State Committee for Economics of the Pskov Region, Pskov Dendropark hasn’t “grown” on its own but was revived as a result of long lasting cross-border cooperation of the Project partners.
The results of the “GreenMan” Project work in Pskov are beneficial for all the inhabitants from the highest officials to the smallest children. That is why the second part of Dendrodark Day was organized as a Holiday for children – participants of summer school camps of Pskov and Pskov Region and children with special needs from the Centre of Curative and Differential Learning of the Pskov Region. Over 150 children took part in the holiday, enjoying games, performances, chalk drawings competition, plain-air drawing workshop, interactive eco-stations and other entertainments.
The children were accompanied on the way from stations to entertainments by mascots representing favourite cartoons heroes. They could take part in eco-quizzes and interactive games and get to know much about Dendropark and the nature of Pskov Region; show their competence in traffic rules and study eco-friendly transport means; participate in competitions and win nice prizes. In the pavilion of Ecological Puppet Theatre from Sebezh Nature Park the children watched a performance teaching them how forest inhabitants are influenced by the people leaving garbage in forests and making fires. Interactive show "Motley Pullet" involved them in the action as active participants.
During Dendropark Day the awarding of the winners of children drawings competition “Green Pskov” took place as well, exhibition of the works submitted to the competition could be appreciated by all participants of the event.
The Dendropark Day was organized by the NGO “Lake Peipsi Project, Pskov”, the Lead partner of “GreenMan” Project, with the support of Pskov City Administration and other project partners. But without the help of the other projects of Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme implemented in Pskov Region the Holiday couldn’t have become so bright and interesting. Synergy and active involvement of the partners of the projects “EstLatRus Traffic” and “People with Nature”: Pskov District and Pytalovo District Administrations and Sebezh National park made it a truly memorable event. The assistance of City Culture Centre, Youth Centre of Pskov District, Children Theatre “Balagury” from Staryi Izborsk, Puppet Eco-Theatre of Sebezh National Park, Centre of Curative and Differential learning of the Pskov Region in organizing the Holiday was most valuable as well as the input of the companies “Prime” and “D&T”
Nota Bene:
The reconstruction of Pskov Dendropark has become the biggest investment of the “GreenMan” Project which joined the efforts of 10 organizations from Estonia, Latvia and Russia in enlarging green zones of the cities of Estonia-Latvia-Russia border areas – Tartu, Rezekne and Pskov – and making their territory more attractive for people. As a result of restoration works in the park with the area of about 6.4 ha new trees were planted, lawns and paved walking paths were organized, street lights system was installed. Besides small infrastructure objects like benches, litter-bins, information boards appeared. Special attention was paid to the needs of people with impaired mobility, and a separate sloping ramp was built in this regard.
