COMMON PEIPSI: Cornerstone of Tartu boat harbour laid
On 03 April 2014 the foundation stone ceremony took place in Tartu where the cornerstone of Tartu boat harbour was laid. Tartu boat harbour is one of 3 harbours, which are constructed in the framework of the large-scale infrastructure project “Economically and Environmentally Sustainable Lake Peipsi Area” (Common Peipsi).
By now about 60% of the works in the harbour are completed - the box of the harbour building is ready, stationary quay is under construction, stone mattresses for insuring the shores of the river are placed. Utility lines, roads and inner decoration of harbour building need to be finalised by the end of 2014. Since the construction works have been thriving ahead of the time schedule there is a high probability that construction of the harbour will be finalised earlier than planned, already in autumn 2014.
Activities on and around river Emajogi have been intensified over the years and there are many new boat owners in Tartu. Therefore the new harbour is much awaited by the boat owners, who will be able to use the harbour in spring 2015.
In the harbour will be established a stationary pier, floating pier, harbour building, storing area for boats, access roads, car park, also will be arranged the shore path within the harbour.
The cost of harbour construction is 1 689 779 EUR. From this amount 1 371 779 EUR is financed from the ENPI Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme and 318 020 EUR co-financed from the budget of Tartu City Government.
