The cross-border cooperation project “Improvement of higher vocational education in the field of transport and logistics”, elaborated by project partners from Latvia and Russia, is focused on improvement of vocational training programme corresponding to the trends of transport and logistics industry. Project outputs including motor vehicle studying programme in Latvian and Russian, upgraded technical grounds, distance learning tool have high potential to impact cross-border socio-economic development in the sphere of transport and logistics and attract local young people to develop their skills and knowledge to improve their employment prospects. Latvia for the first time is assuming the task of presiding the Council of the European Union from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2015. It is taken over from Italy and afterwards the reins of the presidency will be handed over to Luxembourg. The presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates among the Member States every six months and the country holding the presidency drives forward the Council's work. The EU Council is an essential decision maker which together with the European Parliament adopts legislation and coordinates EU policies. The logo for the Latvian presidency of the Council of the European Union is based on the classic image of the grinding stone and all information related to the Latvian EU Presidency can be looked up in special website www.eu2015.lv

The first half of the year 2015, Riga IT Demo Centre will be working in close cooperation of Secretariat of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. More than 200 events and about 30 000 visitors are planned for the first half of 2015 most of which will be held at National Library of Latvia. The project “Baltic ICT Platform” has had a significant opportunity to establish the effective network of Demo Centres in cooperating regions. Riga IT Demo Centre has successfully developed close relationships with similar Demo Centres in Tallinn, Tartu, St. Petersburg, and Ventspils, creating Demo Centre Network and is open for new partners. Through networking, sharing knowledge and experience, the centre has supported the cooperation and increase of the usage of modern ICT technologies by various state institutions and businesses to serve the society and the industry. The year 2014 for the Programme and its supported Projects brought touchable results. Till the end of the year in total 36 or 72% out of 50 projects supported by the Programme accomplished its activities. Out of them 10 projects in spheres of culture, energy efficiency, tourism development, preservation of natural resources, cultural and historical heritage were accomplished in December 2014. In addition, during year 2014 final results of 9 projects were compiled and it was possible to present them in a new publication called Results Sheet to wider public and INTERACT. 14 projects, including 5 Large Scale Projects, are prolonged and their implementation will be accomplished in 2015. Project ELRI-112 “Establishment of environment in Võru (EE), Sigulda (LV), St. Petersburg (RU) for development of tourism” (SVS ACTIVETOUR) created conditions to attract international active and sports tourists as well as inhabitants of all 3 regions to interesting places developing new active and sports tourism objects in Sigulda, St.Petersburg and Võru.

The Cross Border Cooperation Programmes project Regeneration of Parks as an Integral Part of Historical Heritage - Green Heritage (ELRI - 404) concluded this November.
The idea of the project that was carried out for 18 months was based on the development of the park as a place where to offer cultural activities and a place to relax to tourists and locals at the same time supporting and promoting local crafts and entrepreneurs. Within the project the foundations for the restoration of the manor park were laid with an aim to strengthen the role of local parks in people's everyday life and well-being.

On 16 December 2014 in the city of Shlisselburg (Russia) was held the closing conference of the project ELRII-359 „FORGET A HURRY” supported by Estonia-Latvia-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme within European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013. The main aim of the conference was to introduce the results of the project to wider audience and present the vision of the writers and artists about development of creative potential in cross-border cooperation and to discuss further plans for collaboration in the field of literature and art. On 9th December 2014 the 6th meeting of the Joint Programming Committee took place in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The main objective of the meeting was to continue discussion on the draft of the Joint Operational Programme of the Estonia – Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020. Overview about the principles and current stage of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) was presented by expert from Hendrikson & Ko Mr Heikki Kalle. Discussions were held about functions of the Audit and control Structures of the Programme. Timetable for further activities was considered and set. The draft Programme Document for Estonia-Russia Programme 2014-2020 is planned to be introduced to the public in spring 2015. Read more
On 11 December, 2014 final seminar of project „Fostering of Socio-economic Development and Encouraging Business in Border Areas” took place in Bishop's Castle of Vana Vastseliina (Võru County, Estonia). The head of Madona district council Mr Andrejs Ceļapīters addressed to audience and gave the assessment from the Lead partner about the progress of project, importance of the achieved results and necessity to continue with the ongoing. With signed Protocol to the Financing Agreement between the European Community and the Government of the Russian Federation on Financing and Implementing the Cross Border Cooperation Programme “Estonia-Latvia-Russia” entering into force from 8 December 2014 the ENPI Estonia-Latvia-Russia CBC Programme has been officially prolonged till 31 December 2015. Prolongation of the Programme is aimed at ensuring effective implementation of the Programme and 14 projects, that were prolonged during the meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee on 10 December 2014.
